Media statement announcing Lex Libertas' international awareness campaign to amplify personal stories from South Africa and share them with the world.
Lex Libertas launches the “Truth Be Told” campaign to share voices from South Africa with the world PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA — The think tank and pressure group, Lex Libertas has today announced the launch of its international awareness campaign, Truth Be Told, aimed at amplifying the voices of people in South Africa who have witnessed or experienced the country’s growing political and social crisis. The campaign follows recent international attention, including a video shown by U.S. President Donald Trump during a White House meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, highlighting the persecution of minority communities in South Africa. The video sparked controversy, with critics dismissing it as misinformation or even labeling it a “deepfake.” In response, Lex Libertas is taking action. Dr Ernst Roets, Executive Director of Lex Libertas explained that the conversation has become too focused on statistics and the interpretation thereof, and that personal stories have become lost in the clutter. “The debate regarding statistics is important, but it remains only one part of what should be told,” said Roets. He explained that there is an abundance of personal stories that the world should take note of, and that Lex Libertas will facilitate a process to share these stories with the world. “This campaign will give people in South Africa — and those who have spent time here — a platform to speak for themselves,” he continued. Lex Libertas will collect personal stories and testimonies and present them to stakeholders in South Africa, the United States, and international forums. These stories will also support global outreach efforts, including invitations to international podcasters and documentary filmmakers to engage with people who live in South Africa directly. The campaign invites submissions especially related to: * Farm attacks * Racial discrimination and exclusion of minorities * Threats to property rights * The consequences of state collapse “Everyone in South Africa has a story — of hope, heartbreak, struggle, or survival,” said Roets. “When truth is told, change becomes possible.” Submissions are open to anyone who has a personal story to share on any of the abovementioned points. Stories (500 words or fewer) can be submitted via the Lex Libertas website. * People who wish to share their stories or to learn more about the campaign, can visit www.truthbetold.lexlibertas.org.za. * Media outlets and podcasters interested in engaging with those who share their stories can reach out to Lex Libertas at [media@lexlibertas.org.za](mailto:media@lexlibertas.org.za).
