Why We Must Stop It

While presented as optional, such systems often start as voluntary in theory before becoming compulsory in practice.
A digital ID system will create a central record of where citizens go and what they do — handing the state the tools for mass surveillance and control.
The same state that openly admires highly centralised authoritarian regimes is asking us to trust it with our personal data and movements.
Even countries with far better governance and higher trust levels have struggled with digital ID systems — suffering major security breaches, data leaks, and function creep. In developing countries the problems have been far worse.
