Lex Libertas's vision is a viable political dispensation for the peoples of South Africa.

For too long, we have tolerated unrealistic visions and theories of South Africa that allow for the concentration of all power in a single state. This keeps unravelling. Reality demands that we recognise our political diversity and initiate self-governance, so that the people and the communities in this land may flourish in cooperation and respect for each other.

Help us achieve this: conceive and promote a viable political dispensation.

Our Vision

Lex Libertas envisions a viable political order for the communities of South Africa.

Our Mission

Lex Libertas works to advance a sustainable political order for the communities of South Africa. We do so by continually strengthening our ideas and arguments through rigorous research and time-tested principles; by building support for this cause both within and beyond South Africa; and by acting strategically and decisively on this basis — with the aim of meaningfully and constructively reforming the existing political order.

The Meaning Behind Our Name

The name Lex Libertas means "Law and Freedom." In the classical tradition, lex refers not merely to statutes, but to the enduring principles of justice and order that give form to a constitutional arrangement. Libertas denotes the condition of being free — not only the freedom of individuals, but also the collective freedom of nations and communities to live according to their own laws and customs.

As a name, Lex Libertas expresses both our founding principle and our ultimate goal: the pursuit of freedom through a just constitutional order. We work toward a new political dispensation in which the diverse communities of South Africa are free to govern themselves within a framework of law, responsibility, mutual recognition, and cooperation.

Dr. Ernst Roets

Dr Ernst Roets is an Afrikaner activist, author and filmmaker from South Africa. He serves as Executive Director of the newly established Lex Libertas, which seeks to promote a more sustainable political dispensation for South Africa, based on the principles of decentralization and self-governance.

Dr Roets was born in Pretoria, but he grew up in the agricultural community of Tzaneen in the Limpopo Province, bordering Zimbabwe. He is an attorney with a Masters Degree (cum laude) in Constitutional Law. His LL.M. dissertation focused on the extent to which minority communities are protected in practice by the South African Constitution. His doctorate (LL.D.) is in Legal Philosophy, with a focus on the Western conception of freedom. Roets argues for an understanding of freedom as something that could only be fulfilled within the context of the community.

His book, Kill the Boer: Government Complicity in South Africa's Brutal Farm Murders is an international bestseller on Amazon. He is also the producer of several documentary films. He regularly appears in the media - both in South Africa and the international media - about issues relating to South Africa. Furthermore, he regularly speaks at international conferences, including CPAC and NatCon. He is a leading advocate for the protection of free speech and property rights in South Africa, and for farm murders to be regarded as a priority crime. He has recently made appearances on the Tucker Carlson Show, the Jordan B Peterson Podcast and the Ben Shapiro Podcast, among other international podcasts.
