The think tank and advocacy group Lex Libertas congratulated Dr Martin van Staden on his appointment as head of the AfriForum Institute for Federalism (AIF), formerly known as the AfriForum Research Institute (abbreviated as ANI).
AfriForum announced today that the AIF will serve as a centre for policy development, promoting research and discussion on federalism, self-determination, decentralisation, community autonomy and community participation.
Lex Libertas welcomes this development, particularly the leading role Dr Van Staden will play in the institute. ‘Through projects such as the Race Laws Index and his work as Head of Policy at the Free Market Foundation, Dr Van Staden has distinguished himself as an outstanding researcher. His contribution to the debate about freedom in South Africa is already invaluable. We believe he will make an even greater contribution in his new role,’ said Dr Ernst Roets, Executive Director of Lex Libertas.
Dr Van Staden recently participated in Lex Libertas’s White Cross Project in Washington, D.C., where he focused specifically on the extent and consequences of race-based legislation in South Africa.
Roets added that Lex Libertas also welcomes the AIF’s intention to focus on broader, macro-political questions.
Lex Libertas wishes Dr Van Staden, AfriForum and the Free Market Foundation every success.
