Lex Libertas Announces International Future of Nations Conference in Pretoria

Lex Libertas
21/01/2026

Pretoria – The think tank and advocacy group, Lex Libertas, today announced the Future of Nations Conference (FNC) 2026, an international policy and ideas conference that will take place in Pretoria on 25 February 2026. The conference will focus on the future of political order in a changing world, with particular emphasis on self-governance, decentralisation, and the role of nations and communities.

The conference will bring together international and local policymakers, intellectuals, political leaders, entrepreneurs, and civil society actors to engage in principled and practical discussions on alternatives to centralised governance models that are increasingly disconnected from social, cultural, and economic realities. Confirmed speakers include representatives from South Africa, Europe, and the United States.

Lex Libertas is proud to announce today that Stefano Forte, President of the New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) will be a keynote speaker at the conference. He will be accompanied by a delegation from the United States.

More speaker announcements will follow.

“The Future of Nations Conference is intended to move the discussion beyond abstract reasoning and ideology,” said Dr Ernst Roets, Executive Director of Lex Libertas. “At a time of growing political instability and disillusionment with unrealistic visions and theories, this conference will explore realistic, workable approaches to political order that respect nations, communities, responsibility, and freedom.”

Lex Libertas says the conference forms part of its broader effort to strengthen research, build domestic and international engagement, and advance informed debate on viable political alternatives for South Africa and other plural societies.
