A short overview of Mia du Plessis and what you can expect from her contribution at the FNC
The Future of Nations Conference is proud to welcome Mia du Plessis, Advocate and previously a member of Maisels, Brooklyn Chambers, Rivonia Group of Advocates, and the Cape Bar, as a featured speaker at FNC 2026. She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Public International Law from the University of Pretoria, where she focused on administrative law, international relations, and related legal skills. She also earned her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of South Africa, laying the foundation for her career as an Advocate of the High Court of Cape Town.
Du Plessis has been practising as an advocate for the past eight years, specialising in administrative, commercial, and insolvency law. She has a keen interest in human rights and the protection of minorities, which inspired her pursuit of a Master’s in International Law.
Beyond the courtroom, she has explored the business world, applying her legal insight in entrepreneurial ventures.
She is widely recognised for her work in constitutional and public law. Her practice engages directly with questions of lawful governance, institutional accountability, and the practical operation of the rule of law in contemporary South Africa. A regular speaker on topics at the intersection of law, society, and civic engagement, Du Plessis brings both legal depth and practical insight to public debate.
Her legal expertise has been widely recognised in the media, with commentary featured by Daily Maverick, Huisgenoot, Huisgenoot TV, Corruption Watch, TimesLIVE, and Netwerk24. In politically significant matters, she has acted as legal counsel for civil rights organisation AfriForum, representing the group’s application before the State Capture Commission and arguing on behalf of its members before Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
At FNC 2026, Mia du Plessis will examine how the rule of law, accountable governance, and institutional integrity are no longer abstract ideals but urgent necessities in a society facing political fragmentation, regulatory complexity, and declining public trust. Her address will explore practical and legally sound solutions for communities and nations to assert their rights, uphold accountability, and engage proactively with the frameworks that shape civic life.
We look forward to welcoming Mia du Plessis to the FNC 2026 to hear her critical insights on the legal foundations that sustain free and functioning societies.
